Housing arrangements for the future can be a stressful, anxiety-provoking topic for you and your family. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you need more personal care services than are feasible at home or in an independent living retirement community. A nursing home may be a good choice if both medical and personal care needs have become too great to handle at home. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. You have a close network of nearby family, friends, and neighbors. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. There is a wide range of home care services that can help you maintain your independence within the comfort of your own home, from in home help to day care. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but it’s anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Retirement homes are also called retirement residences.
