Retirement homes are also called retirement residences. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. You have a close network of nearby family, friends, and neighbors. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you need more personal care services than are feasible at home or in an independent living retirement community. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents.
