An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you donít need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Staff is available twenty-four hours a day. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. There is a wide range of home care services that can help you maintain your independence within the comfort of your own home, from in home help to day care. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. A nursing home may be a good choice if both medical and personal care needs have become too great to handle at home. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living.

We are a senior couple, together for over 50 years. We have been thinking it's time to make a change - take a rest from cooking, housecleaning, mowing the lawn. It's time to get to think about us. We visited Shannon Oaks in Victoria and met its friendly, concerned staff, saw the roomy accommodations, and had a great tea there. We like the feel of it - feels like home.

We are not fond of (nor can we afford) what we teasingly refer to as "cruise ship" retirement homes - these are the big, opulent ones with vast halls, where you can get lost on the way back from the bathroom, where, if you stop to talk to someone, you may likely never meet them again! They have all the mod cons, every conceivable activity, everything of everything and there's enough room to swing many cats.

Shannon Oaks has lots of activities, certainly all the activities we think we need. Shannon Oaks feels intimate, homely, inviting, comfortable, like home. It's bright, modern, colourful, without seeming opulent. When my choir sings there, the residents come to talk to us, are so much fun, so friendly. Yes, Shannon Oaks represents good value for money. We are not particularly religious but we embrace the Christian values of forgiveness and love - who wouldn't?
