Centennial Senior Home Society
Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living.
